Switzerland, a small country, is a VERY GREAT PARADISE for cycling.
You can criss-cross the whole territory in all directions by a multitude of routes (national, regional, local), all marked out and secure. A marvel.
The relief is marked mountainous over a significant proportion of the country. So among the 9 major national routes you have to make your choice according to the terrain and your own physical-sports profile.
If you are, like us, more a cyclist or a peaceful cyclo-camper than an ultra-sporty cyclist, you can still enjoy superb alpine panoramas. Indeed some routes start from very high in the mountains to reach the low plains of the country with a profile almost always descending: Route du Rhône and Route du Rhin (both from Andermatt). You can also add the Route n°3 North-South Basel-Chiasso, provided you start from the south on the Italian side and zap the Chiasso-Andermatt section. Andermatt is thus at the origin of 3 roads with strong relief but with soft use.
This is how we were able to realize in 2014… a cycle tour along, around and across Switzerland.
Below you will find the GPS files (GPX and KML formats) of the 9 "National Routes" of "Cycling in Switzerland".
