GOING - COMING BACK

The cyclo-route starts in Roanne. It can be reached by the train Intercité Lyon-Nantes (reservation by bike obligatory).

For the return trip from Nantes, the TGV Atlantiques take undismounted bikes with obligatory reservation.

ACCOMODATIONS

The entire hike was done in camping mode:

• Overall the quality of the campsites is similar to the French campsites (good).
• The top two:
  • Camping Schiefer Turm in Kitzingen. Very nice and high quality sanitary facilities.
  • Camping Insel in Bamberg. Very pleasant and quiet environment. Very good sanitary facilities.
• The two worst:
  • Camping Cannstatter Wasen in Stuttgart :
    • Very unpleasant welcome from the owner (it is better to fall on his wife)
    • Tent zone attached to the Mercedes test ring… which runs even at night!
  • Camping Bleiau in Mainz :
    • The reception is very nice by the owner who is very helpful.
    • On the other hand the sanitary facilities are in a deplorable state. It is the one and only German campsite, which we have known for years, where long term customers (workers on the move) are dirty on them and in their use of the WC (flushes NEVER fired). Permanent smells !
    • No sinks for washing dishes, it must be done in the wash basins (dirty and smelly sanitary facilities).
