It's a hike that is both maritime and rural. It's not beautiful, but it's nice. There are no great reliefs, but some sections have a succession of very steep coasts.
It is a hike to be done preferably by mountain bike, because many passages are broken. In the rain it's very muddy and the wide and grippy tires are welcome. Suspended versions will be highly appreciated especially on the mainland opposite the island of Rügen where long stretches of road are entirely paved with cobblestones!
WARNING: Trailers are not recommended as some passages are very narrow. Only one bike occupies the whole track on long sections. Even without a trailer these passages must be difficult in the middle of summer with full bicycle traffic and the impossibility of crossing each other while riding. For us this was no problem since we did it in the spring.
Fortunately we had our GPS, because the signposting is very poor (surprising for Germany).
